trip Overview
Rara to Jomsom Trek
The Rara to Jomsom Trek is an extraordinary Himalayan adventure that combines two of Nepal’s most spectacular trekking regions — the serene Rara Lake and the legendary trails of Jomsom and Lower Mustang. This challenging yet rewarding journey offers an exceptional blend of natural beauty, remote mountain landscapes, diverse ethnic cultures, and high Himalayan passes.
The adventure begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, followed by an overnight stay before flying to Jumla (2,370m), the gateway to this remarkable trek. From Jumla, the trail winds through picturesque villages, dense pine forests, and untouched wilderness toward the breathtaking Rara Lake, the largest and most beautiful lake in Nepal. Surrounded by alpine forests and snow-capped mountains, the crystal-clear blue waters of Rara create an unforgettable Himalayan experience.
As the trek progresses, adventurers cross several high mountain passes, including Chargya La Pass (5,146m), which offers stunning panoramic views of Tibet and the Kanjiroba Himalayan Range. The journey further ascends to the highest point of the trek, Nyingma Gyanzen La Pass (5,557m), providing dramatic mountain scenery and a true sense of wilderness exploration.
The trail then descends toward the culturally rich region of Lower Mustang and Jomsom, with magnificent views of the Annapurna Range, Mt. Dhaulagiri, and Tilicho Peak accompanying the journey. Along the route, trekkers encounter charming traditional villages inhabited by diverse ethnic communities, offering unique insights into local culture, lifestyle, and ancient Himalayan traditions.
Spanning approximately 32 days, the Rara to Jomsom Trek is ideal for experienced trekkers seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure filled with breathtaking landscapes, authentic cultural encounters, and unforgettable Himalayan experiences.
