trip Overview

Upper Dolpo treks is a remote and unspoiled trekking area that lies near the Tibetan border of Nepal. The trek offers the beauty of the unspoiled and untouched land of Nepal. The trek opens in the late eighties for trekkers before this area was restricted to a foreigner. In this upper Dolpo trek special permit is also necessary for the exploration. The main attraction of this trek is the High Himalayan passes (5151m), Shey Gompa-800 years old Monastery, and Phoksundo lake.

With Nepal Dream Path treks, Upper Dolpo Treks start after having a sightseeing tour in Kathmandu, obtaining a special permit. We take our flight from Kathmandu to Juphal via Nepalganj. Following the path, we trek north onto Shey Phoksundo National Park and steep ascent to cross the Nangdola la pass. From this area, you can enjoy the whole view of Dolpo valley to Dhaulagiri and snow-capped mountains. The scenery begins to change with the hills becoming shades of red, brown, and gray, and one can hear a prayer flag fluttering at the top of the pass. This upper Dolpo trek is one of the great trekking experiences in Nepal. Here is a holy mountain known as `Crystal Mountain’ that`s why many pilgrims visit this upper Dolpo every year. In this area, we can rarely find people who can understand Nepali. Although it lies in a remote area, this is the perfect place for the adventure. Summer and Monsoon is the best time for trekking and winter is not perfect because of the heavy snowfall.

Trekking in Upper Dolpo

2018

We recently returned from Upper Dolpo 22 days trek and I can honestly say that it was one of the best experiences of my life. We did this trek with Nepal Dream Path Treks and Expedition. We did this trek with Nepal Dream Path Treks & Expedition and they manage everything we need for the from our arrival in Kathmandu.  Our guide Damodar was just amazing, a true professional and one of the loveliest people I have ever met. Porters are really great, they even have a smiling face when they were lugging 25 kilos of gear. I can recommend this company specially Damodar pyakurel as a guide and Tek, Min and Furi as a porter for this trek.
