Gokyo Tengboche Monastery Trek is one of the short trekking routes in Everest Region. This trek leads to a remarkable adventure with an experience of a lifetime memory. Trekkers can enjoy the beauty of the high landscapes in the Khumbu region within the Sagarmatha National Park. Tengboche Monastery is one of the most prominent as well as the largest monasteries in the Khumbu region.

Gokyo Tengboche Monastery trek starts with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla also called the gateway to Everest. The trek follows farms and traditional Buddhist villages along the river bank. This scenic adventure leads to time to acclimatize at Namche Bazaar. With adorable views of the high snow-capped peaks, the trail leads to Gokyo Valley via Thame and Khumjung villages. Gokyo lake is one of the most popular treks for the incredible combination of natural resources. From Gokyo Ri Top, you can see the fabulous views of the surrounding peaks and landscape including Mt.Everest, Mt. Makalu, and Cho Oyo. After this adventurous and Memorable Trip, Nepal Dream Path Trek’s route leads back to Lukla.

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu 1,340m and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: A day in Kathmandu with a half-day sightseeing guided tour.
Day 03: Fly to Lukla [2,800m] & trek to Phakding [2,650m] [45 min fly & 3-4 hrs walk].
Day 04: Namche Bazaar [3,450m] [5-6 hrs walk].
Day 05: Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization.
Day 06: Trek to Thame [3,820m] [5-6 hrs walk].
Day 07: Trek to Khunde village [3,800m] [5-6 hrs walk].
Day 08: Trek to Dole [4,200m] [5-6 hrs walk].
Day 09: Trek to Machermo [4,410m] [4 hrs walk].
Day 10: Trek to Gokyo [4,760m] [4 hrs walk].
Day 11: At Gokyo for the local hike to Gokyo Ri [5,357m].
Day 12: Trek to Phortse [3,800m] [7-8 hrs walk].
Day 13: Trek to Tengboche [3,865m] [5 hrs walk].
Day 14: Trek to Monjo [2,750m] [6-7 hrs walk] via Namche Bazar.
Day 15: Trek to Lukla via Phakding [5 hrs walk].
Day 16: Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel.
Day 17:  Transfer to Airport for the International departure.

Detail Itinerary

At Kathmandu International airport, the Nepal Dream Path Treks staff receives and transfers you to Hotel. After the check-in procedure completes in the hotel, our representative or guide will brief the Hotel, Kathmandu, Trekking, do's and don’ts with related information that might require while in Nepal with us.


10am - 4pm BB plan Hotel/Resort

After the first night in Kathmandu, well informed regarding the time for half-day for the sightseeing tour in Kathmandu at places of interest. Depart the hotel for guided sightseeing at places of interest.


3-4 hrs walk All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee] Tea House

In the morning, domestic airport board the small twin otter or similar plane for the scenic flight to Lukla, arrival meet our guides. At Lukla you will have time to visit around, while the Sherpa crew sort and divide the load, lunch depending upon the time of arrival either in Lukla or a few hours treks further on route to Phakding. The first-day trek on the gradual path all the way, with few ups offering views of Mt. Kusum-Kanguru 6,369 m 2-3 hrs of gradual walk brings you to Phakding village for the overnight stop.


5-6 hrs walk All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee] Tea House

From Phakding on crossing the bridge over the River Dudh-Kosi; the walk is pleasant with a few short uphill and downhill and re-crossing the same river again, with a magnificent view of Thermasarkhu 6,608m, reaching Monjo village. After Monjo, walk to the entrance gate of Sagarmatha National Park. From there a short descent with a gradual walk until Jorsalle village is reached, the last village till Namche Bazaar, with a pleasant walk on the river bed till to the last bridge over the Imjatse River, from here trek along the winding uphill path all the way to Namche Bazaar, with grand views of Kwande peak, Kusum Kanguru  & Mt. Everest with Nuptse wall, Lhotse and the closer view of Taweche peak can be seen all the way up, another hour walk up reaches to Namche Bazaar, the colorful houses are situated in an amphitheater landscape.


A rest day with a short walk for acclimatization to Sagarmatha National Park Headquarters. A panoramic view spot on top of Namche Bazaar with surrounding snow-capped mountains, valleys scenery visit the museum for all kinds of information history of  Himalaya, Geography, Culture, Mountaineering, and flora and fauna of this region, afternoon free at leisure.

From Namche, the Nepal Dream Path Treks route diverts west; contouring the hillside and reaching the ridge looking down at Namche, the trek follows the gradual winding path up the Bhote Kosi River valley, once a popular trading route into Tibet. At present this route is often used by Tibetan traders at present, along with passing prayer flags and mani or prayer stones, all indicative of the Tibetan Buddhist culture of this area. The walk passes through Gonglha and Drama and the village of Thomde where one can make a detour and visit the monastery at Mende, then descend to Bhote Kosi then a steep climb for an hour to Thame village for the overnight stop. In Thame excellent views of Teng Kangpoche and Kwangde and to the north is the Nangpa-la 5,710m pass leading to Tibet. Thame monastery is situated above overlooking the valley and is an important site in springtime for the celebrations of the Mani Rimdu festival.

After a wonderful time at Thame, retrace the journey to Bhote Kosi valley near above Namche, following the trail to Khunde and Khumjung the largest Sherpa villages in the Khumbu area. The walk leads to Syangboche small airstrip, overlooking the magnificent view of Mt. Kwangde, Thermasherkhu, and other peaks with an aerial view of Namche Bazaar down below, after Syangboche, a short climb towards Khunde village situated in the glacial valley as Khumjung village beneath the sacred Mt. Khumbila 5,761m. A peaceful trek brings us to the quiet village of Khunde for an overnight stop. At Khunde Khumbu’s one and only hospital built by Sir Edmund Hillary's Foundation.

After a peaceful time at Khunde and Khumjung trail leads to an hour downhill joining the main trail at Shanasa, on this area chances of seeing beautiful colorful Danphe pheasant (Impeyan Pheasant) national bird of Nepal and elusive musk deer, sometimes a herd of Himalayan Thar (mountain goat). From here Gokyo route diverts from the main trail towards the north, the walk climbs on the steep rock steps embedded in a narrow cleft in a large boulder; the two trails soon join towards a large Chorten on the ridge top at Mong 3,973 meters.  From the Mong path meanders in a series of switchbacks down to a sandy slope to Dudh Kosi at Phortse Thangka from here continue trek to Dole with a steep climb through the path of rhododendron forest which gives way to juniper and conifers trees. The trek winds through the Tongba village at 3,950m and Gyele at 3,960m and finally arrives at Dole. A superb view of Khumbila and Tawache 6,542m can be seen throughout the walk.

From Dole, the route climbs steadily along the side of the valley, rhododendron forest giving way to scrub juniper as altitude gains gradually. The trail climbs on a level path for an hour to Lhabarma Kharka at 4,325 m and furthers an hour to Luza at 4,390m; then skirting around a ridge for the views of Machermo village spread out in the valley below. There is an excellent Swiss chalet-style lodge at Machermo, arriving at Machermo on good time for the overnight halt, with time to hike above the village. Just above the village, there is a grand view of the world's 6th highest Mt. Cho Oyo 8,210m and all the mountains that flank the Ngozumba Khumbus longest Glacier.

Today’s trek leads to the pristine lake at Gokyo, following a scenic trail to Pangka 4,545m and then descending slightly on the glacial-fed rivers which flow down the west of Ngozumba Glacier. Then climb a steep rocky path to the valley by the side of the glacier, passing the first lake. Soon arriving at the second lake, crossing the path which heads across the glacier to the Cho –La, then reaching the third lake known as Dudh Pokhari and on the east shore the summer settlement of Gokyo at 4,790 meters.

The early morning hike to Gokyo Ri is one of the highlights of this trekking, the view around is fabulous,  Gokyo Ri, a small ridgetop above the lake at 5,357m with panorama views of Cho Oyo, Gyachung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse, Taweche and far as to Mt. Makalu towards the east, taking about 2 hrs to reach this wonderful top. After a marvelous time return back to the lodge at Gokyo with the afternoon free to enjoy the beautiful surrounding scenery.


3-4 hrs walk All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, tea/Coffee] Tea House

After a wonderful time here at Gokyo with a leisurely morning as today is a short walk of 3-4 hours, retracing the journey back on the same way for a few hours then the route turns east descending to the village of Na situated at the foot of the Ngozumba glacier.

Trek leads to a descend opposite side of Dudh Kosi River valley to the village of Phortse, this downhill path is straightforward following the east side of the valley with different views of Khumbu peaks, then reaching Phortse a nice village beneath steep hills and overlooking the junction of the River Dudh Kosi and Imja Khola.

After a wonderful time here with views of the snow-capped peaks DP Treks route climbs and contours around the west side of the Imjatse Khola River valley offering excellent views of Mt. Ama Dablam, Nuptse-Lhotse wall, and Mt. Everest. The trail has some steep drops but the paths are nice and wide, after a few hours of good walking reaching Pangboche upper village near 4,000 m visit the old monastery. From Pangboche trek heads downhill towards Imjatse River, after crossing the bridge a gradual walk brings you back to green vegetation and tree lines, and a short half-hour climb reaches Thyangboche for the overnight stop, a wonderful spot with views and Monastery.


5-6 hrs walk All breakfast, lunch, dinner Tea House

Retrace the journey back to Shanasha, where the trail from Khumjung, Gokyo, and Namche joins. From here the route follows on the main busy path, as the walk winds all the way to Namche Bazaar on reaching Namche Bazaar retrace the journey back to Monjo for the overnight camp at Monjo, located just near the Sagarmatha National Park entrance and exit gate.


5-6 hrs walk All breakfast, lunch, dinner Tea House

The last day of this great adventure is a nice walk to Lukla, enjoying the lush green scenery around, apart from a few short uphill the only long climb will be just before Lukla takes about an hour from the old big oak tree. On reaching Lukla, prepare for the last day dinner and party with Sherpa staff, porters, and trekking members.

The flight time to Kathmandu is in the morning sometimes the flight time can be delayed due to bad weather and other reason, as the flight time takes about 30 minutes to reach Kathmandu, a panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks can be seen during the flight. At Kathmandu air terminal, DP Treks staff receives and transfers you back to your respective hotels.


Today as per your international flight time, Nepal Dream Path Treks staff transfer you to the airport for your final departure from this high-magic Himalayan country, Nepal.
