Mani Rimdu Festival is one of the most important festivals include in the Sherpa or Tibetan calendar. It is a series of masked dances where monks and priests clad in elaborate masks and costumes, dramatize the triumph of Buddhism over Bon; the ancient animistic religion of Tibet.

‘Mani Rimdu Festival is celebrated for 19 days sequence which concludes with the 3-day public festival. It is one of the most exciting as well as interesting Festival Trek in the Everest region of Khumbu. The monks, priests, and lamas perform ancient arts and cultural, and religious dances during this festive. This cultural scenic trekking leads to a remarkable adventure with an experience of a lifetime; enjoy the beauty of the high landscapes in the Khumbu valley within the highest world heritage Sagarmatha National Park.

Short Itinerary


Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu [1,340m] and transfer to Hotel.
Day 02: Sightseeing Tour around world heritage sites of Kathmandu.
Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla & trek to Phakding [2,650m].
Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar [3,440m] [5-6 hrs walk].
Day 05: Rest Day at Namche Bazaar.
Day 06: Trek to Tengboche [3,867m] [5-6 hrs walk].
Day 07: Observe the Festival at Tengboche.
Day 08: Observe the Festival at Tengboche.
Day 09: Trek to Namche Bazaar [5-hour walks].
Day 10: Trek to Phakding [2,650m] [4-5 hrs walk].
Day 11: Trek back to Lukla. [3-4 hrs walk].

After the first night in Kathmandu, well informed regarding the time for half-day for the sightseeing tour in Kathmandu at places of interest. Depart the hotel for guided sightseeing at places of interest.


45 min fly and 3 hrs walk All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee] Tea house

Morning transfer to domestic airport board in the small twin otter or similar plane for the scenic flight to Lukla. At Lukla you will have time to visit around, while the Sherpa crew sort and divide the load, lunch depending upon the time of arrival either in Lukla or a few hours treks further on route to Phakding. The first-day trek on the gradual path all the way, with few downhill and ups offering views of Mt. Kusum-Kanguru 6,369 m 2-3 hrs of gradual walk brings you to Phakding village for the overnight stop.


5 hrs walk All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee] Tea House

From Phakding on crossing the bridge over the River Dudh-Kosi the walk is pleasant with a few short uphill and downhill and re-crossing the same river again, with a magnificent view of Thermasharkhu 6,608m, reaching at Monjo village, after Monjo, walk to the entrance gate of Sagarmatha National Park, from here a short descend with a gradual walk to Jorsalle village is reached, the last village till Namche Bazaar, with a pleasant walk on the river bed till to the last bridge over the Imaja-the river, from here trek along the winding uphill path all the way to Namche Bazaar, with grand views of Kwande peak, Kusum Kanguru  & Mt. Everest with Nuptse wall, Lhotse and the closer view of Taweche peak can be seen all the way up, another hour walk up reaches to Namche Bazaar, the colorful houses are situated in an amphitheater landscape.


A rest day with a short walk for acclimatization to Sagarmatha National Park Headquarter, a panoramic view spot on top of Namche Bazaar with surrounding snow-capped mountains, valleys scenery visit the museum with all kinds of information history of Himalaya, Geography, Culture, Mountaineering and on flora and fauna of this region, afternoon free at leisure.


5-6 hrs walk All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee] Tea House

A moderate walk for the first half, climb to the ridge of Namche Bazaar, where the walk follows on the gradual trail with few ups and downs with views of great snow peaks from Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thermasharkhu, and Kwangde-Ri peak after a pleasant walk of three hours reaching at Phungitenga 3,250m, in the midst of alpine woods silver fir blue pines, rhododendron, and some few magnolia and birch trees. From here a strenuous climb for two hours on the winding path to Thyangboche Monastery for the overnight stop. This beautiful spot offers views of the majestic peak Ama Dablam with Everest above Nuptse in the north and Mt. Lhotse, Lhotse Shar towards the northeast.


We have allowed 2 free days to observe this festival of a lifetime experience, on extra days one can hike walk around to Pangboche and back in a day, or just at leisure watching the festival at Thyangboche Monastery and its premises.


5-6 hrs walk All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee] Tea House

After a wonderful time at Thyangboche retrace the journey back to Namche Bazaar with an alternative route via Khumjung and Khunde village located in the glacial valley beneath the Khumbu’s sacred peak Khumbila at 5,761m, from here reach Namche Bazaar through Syangboche small airstrips for the overnight stop.


An easy day downhill walk today, from Namche it’s a long descent to the Dudh Koshi river bed. As the walking progress on this steep downhill retraces the journey all the way to Phakding for the overnight.


3-4 hrs walk. All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee] Tea House

The last day of this great adventure is a nice walk to Lukla, enjoying the lush green scenery around, apart from a few short uphill the only long climb will be just before Lukla takes about an hour from the old big oak tree. On reaching Lukla, prepare for the last day dinner and party with Sherpa staff, porters, and trekking members.

The flight time to Kathmandu is in the morning sometimes the flight time can be delayed due to bad weather and other reason, as the flight time takes about 30 minutes to reach Kathmandu, a panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks can be seen during the flight. At Kathmandu air terminal, the Dp treks staff receives and transfers you back to your respective hotels.

I had no idea about this festival when i was trekking for EBC around the month of october- november. Thanks to our guide Tenzing from dptreks who convinced us to go to Tengboche monastery, we got to experience this amazing festival.
