Famous Monsoon Trekking Area in Nepal

Monsoon season in Nepal is the month of June, July, and August. There is a trekking region in Nepal which is a rain shadow area. Upper Mustang, Lower Dolpo, and Upper Dolpo are the major trekking destination during monsoon. Those areas are less vegetation similar to the Tibetan plateau. It receives very little rain in those areas; at the same time, other regions in Nepal get weighty rain that can last the whole day. Fewer vegetation areas get greenery after little rain, which makes the area more charming that is even beneficial for trekkers because greenery provides more oxygen which caused easy to breathe at high altitudes.

Upper Mustang Trek

Upper Mustang Trekking is one of the most remarkable and adventurous treks of the Mustang region in Nepal. During the trekking journey, with Himalayan views, you’ll pass through some ancient villages of Kagbeni, Lo Manthang, Jomsom, Chhuksang, and Chele. All these villages are such remarkable places with beautiful landscapes and cultural diversity.

This unique trek passes through desert-like landscapes, deep canyons, beautiful waterfalls, eroded cliffs, and mountain valleys. While walking along the side of the Kali Gandaki river you’ll get striking views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Nilgiri, and Mt. Annapurna.

Upper Mustang is also known as the Last Forbidden Kingdom. It was once part of Tibet and salt caravans used to cross the Himalayas of Nepal. It lies in the rain shadow area of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges and thus turned this land into a barren desert. So, this place is also called the “mountain desert”. The Upper Mustang trek will reward you with diverse landscapes combined with the authentic Nepali-Tibetan culture. En route, you’ll encounter Tamang, Gurung, Mustangi, and Tibetan inhabitants. During this wonderful trek, you’ll also walk along the Kali Gandaki gorge which is one of the deepest gorges in the world.

Further, you’ll also visit Muktinath temple which is an important pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. Trek ends with a short scenic flight back to Pokhara from Jomsom and followed by a drive to Kathmandu. Upper Mustang Trekking is the best option for those who want to explore the remote and untouched treasures of the Himalayas! The scenery along the entire trail is simply stunning.
